A montana elk baby is more likely to be seen in the wild than at a farm.
These animals are also known as the wapiti that translates from Shawnee as a white deer. The early setters decided that these animals were moose when they saw them for the first time and called them elk which is a British word for moose.

Cows usually give birth to a single calf. Its coat is reddish brown and it is usually born in April after the period of gestation of 250 days. The babies are nursed for several months by their mothers and stay with them fro a year or two. A montana elk baby is more likely to be seen in the wild than at a farm.
