These animals like all deer, have four-chambered, ruminating stomachs. They are capable of breeding at 28 months of age though only the strongest males are able to be involved in a breeding process. The young are usually born in the spring.

These are polygamous animals though only a few of the most virile and powerful males are destined to become the fathers of the young.
