The males reach sexual maturity at the age of 16 months and they rarely mate until the age of 2 years for there is high competition. The young that are born are cared for by a female and the young join the herd only in a few weeks.

These animals are highly sociable and they usually can be found living in herds of about 400 species. The herd is usually led by a female though during a mating season, a male will form harems consisting of 20-30 females.
