Their length is about seven feet while their weight can be up to 1000 lbs. Males have large antlers with many tines; they are buffy gray on the back with a white ramp patch. They have long hair on the neck that forms a grizzled, grayish-brown throat mane.

An elk is a cousin of the wapiti, a large North American Deer. In the wild these animals can be found on a small area near Buttonwillow in Kern County and Owens Valley, in Inyo County and Tupman.
